Crime statistics methodologies differ between countries. Direct cross-country comparisons should be made with caution. See individual zone pages for data quality notes specific to each dataset.
License Disclaimers
Australia (ABS): Data licensed under CC BY 4.0. Attribution to the Australian Bureau of Statistics is required. Counting unit is victims (not incidents) — not directly comparable with incident-based countries. Ecuador (INEC): No formal open license has been identified for INEC crime statistics. Data is published under Decreto Ejecutivo 1384 which mandates government data transparency, but does not constitute a standard open data license. England and Wales: Data licensed under Open Government Licence v3.0. Contains public sector information licensed under the OGL. Crown Copyright applies. Eurostat (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey): Data is available under the Eurostat free re-use policy, which permits re-use for commercial and non-commercial purposes with attribution to Eurostat. South Africa (SAPS): SAPS does not publish an explicit data license. The repackaged dataset (afrith/crime-stats) uses PDDL v1.0, but availability of the underlying SAPS data relies on the constitutional right of access to information (Section 32, South African Constitution). Switzerland (BFS): BFS crime statistics are published under "open use with attribution". Commercial use of BFS data may require explicit permission from BFS.
